Why I cook at camp?
Bringing dehydrated meals camping is extremely convenient. They save weight in your pack and time at camp. Best of all, you don’t have to worry about anything spoiling while you’re hiking. So why do I take the time to pack in fresh food and prepare a proper meal? … Because it’s FUN and I enjoy cooking! With a little bit of planning and properly packing your food, you can still get in a days hike and prepare yourself a nice meal like you would at home. And the end result will be much more satisfying than just adding boiling water to a bag of dehydrated food.
Below you will find some of the recipes for the meals I prepare on my camping trips, the gear I’m cooking with, and a few tips on how I pack things so they stay fresh for the 8-12 hours before it’s time to settle down at camp and make dinner.
Note: These recipes are constantly changing. I rarely follow a recipe completely and I am always adding or reducing the quantities of particular ingredients to adapt to whatever size cooking kit I am using on a trip. Don’t be afraid to experiment and have fun with it!
